Uganda gave the world a practical demonstration of blended finance through the GET FiTprogramme. Public capital was used surgically to de-risk renewable energy projects, leveraging significant private investment including; senior debt from Deutsche Bank and risk guarantees from the World Bank.

The result was a replicable model that has since informed similar efforts elsewhere.

We study successes like GET FiT because they prove that African energy investment at scale is not theoretical, it is already happening. The architecture simply needs to be expanded and adapted.

Blended finance, when designed well, shifts risk profiles just enough for commercial capital to participate productively.
